Gillingham travel north to Macclesfield this weekend keen to maintain their six game unbeaten run.
Victory over Leyton Orient in the FA Cup last Saturday not only kept up Andy Hessenthaler’s sides run, but maintained the confidence levels that has seen them climb to seventh in League Two, just seven points behind Cheltenham in third.
The Gills last defeat came at Morecambe and Hessenthaler will be impressing upon his squad that they need to put the FA Cup Third Round tie with Stoke City to the back of their minds and get on with the job in hand and get promotion.
Hessenthaler will have three or four players in which to choose from this weekend with strikers Frank Nouble and Jo Kuffour coming back into the mix.
Midfielder Chris Whelpdale will also be available after pulling out of the Leyton Orient squad on the morning of the game due to illness, whilst defender Matt Lawrence remains a doubt with a knee injury.
It’s safe to assume that Hessenthaler will keep faith with the defence that served him so well at Orient with Charlie Lee set to keep the right back berth, but it will be in midfield that The Gills boss has a bit of a selection dilemma.
Assuming Stefan Payne drops to the bench, he will have to squeeze another player out of the side if he is to bring both Nouble and Kuffour back into the side.
Therefore, The Gills could line up something like this:
Flitney, Lee, Richards, Frampton, Martin, Nouble, J Payne, Weston, Jackman, Kuffour, Kedwell.
Subs: Gazzaniga, Fish, Montrose, Whelpdale, S Payne.
